Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
What a mouth full! It makes me think... what is left over to eat which doesn't have anything of the above in the ingredients?!

Re: Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
The theory behind this diet is weak and unproven. And there is limited evidence as to whether GFCF diets are actually effective.
I believe in the last study of 230 children, only 17 showed any sign of improvement. |

Yes it does seem there is not a lot of evidence behind this. I have known people to try it for a long time but then stop again to find very little difference.

Re: Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
Some parents, like Jenny McCarthy and others you see on YouTube and forums, swear by dietary interventions like the GFCF diet. I guess, at the end of the day, that you just have to try it and see, you just don't know what's going to work for an individual child.

Re: Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
i have read loads about this too, read jenny macarthys book, i do belive it can make a difference but i belive its down to each individual child, my son aaron,4, who has ASD had constant diahorrea as a baby and constant constipation as a toddler, he always had a limited diet of gallons of cows milk plain pasta plain white bread and very little else all gluten foods. i decided to cut cows milk out and i must say after 3 days he had started doing normal poo for the first time in his life. im not going to take the diet any further until i see the dietician we have been referred to, because if you take a look at the gfcf diet its so hard to follow there is not much else to eat once you cut these things out, where i live there is not a great supply of gluten free foods, but if thats what he needs i will do it, but to me the fact his poo is fine for now is a huge step because it must be pretty horrible being 4 and constipated all the time. but its up to the individual if they believe in it. i do believe diet has a huge factor but i think you need to speak to a professional dietician who can take you through it properly if your going to do it you have to do it right.

Re: Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
I agree with you, Caroline, it's definitely down to individual children whether it makes a difference or not. I'm so glad that cutting out cow's milk has made a difference with your son. I also agree with you about seeing a qualified dietician or someone like a DAN! doctor who has experience with dietary interventions, people need to make sure that they are doing it right and that their children are still getting the nutrition they need. It's also helpful sometimes to combine dietary interventions with other types of treatment.
Good luck with your son. Blogging the latest on autism and biomedical interventions on http://www.newautismcure.com/blog |

That's why you need to do such dietary interventions with the help and advice of a qualified person, such as a dietician, DAN doctor or a pediatrician.

Re: Gluten-free, Casien-free, Gliadin-free, Sugar-free diet
i think the danger is that jenny mccarthy is talking so much about "curing" autism which is very dangerous for a child to need to be "cured" they would have to be sick or dying i dont think my son is i think he is a special little boy who needs a bit of help understanding this crazy world, to be honest i need a bit of help with that myself!!!!! aaron was drinking far too much milk he was replacing food but im just happy with the fact he is not constipated anymore thats enough for me, i think as mums we do have enough on our plates without having to go through the struggle of battling changing diets i just wanted the constipation eased up. also in this country its very hard yes its good we have the nhs but lets face it its not been a great help for some. we have had help but now its a case of waiting on the waiting lists for anything else to happen which could take forever.
