risperidone
Jay takes risperidone medication. But the past 2 months he has not been sleeping till really late of a night sometimes 11.30, 12.30, latest has been 2.30. and i do the same routine. Although he sleeps when hes in bed its affecting morning in him getting out bed, shouting, getting dressed everything. Im thinking maybe he might need melatonin. He is around puberty so im thinking maybe this is why. Before he was sleeping around 10.30pm

Do your children sleep late or early for school? Tonite he slept 11

RE: risperidone
Our son is on melatonin and the Dr did advise us to give it a break once a week or once ever two weeks so he does not get to used to it.

We tend to give it most week nights then leave it most weekends to break it up.

RE: risperidone
Risperidone is an anti-psychotic, used for a variety of reasons. Mainly it is used to help with emotional lability and sleep patterns. Having no success with this as far as the sleep goes. However the emotional lability is somewhat better. All three of my sons are on Melatonin, which also doesn't seem to work. The anti-psychotic Seroquel seems to have more of an effect on their sleeping habits, and also increases their appetite, along with helping with emotional lability, it is used in combination with a lower dosage of Risperidal.

RE: risperidone
Hi There

What a pain in the backside... especially if you didn't have a good mattress, or pillow for the little bit of sleep that was allowed to you as parent to get Tongue Confused

All jokes aside. It is REALLY painful to not get enough sleep, not to mention sleeping patterns that are way out with your child!!!

My son was tested and diagnosed at 18 months old to be on the autistic spectrum, ranking mild to severe.

A DAN practitioner close to us suggested we take our son off of dairy and what do you know... after two months of cravings, his sleep patterns started getting better. To calm him a bit, we give him about 1/8 of a teaspoon TAURINE in a glass of milk substitute about 40 minutes before bed time. You can give Taurine more than once a day, but I don't like my little one to be on too many supplements. Taurine is an all natural product with no side effects.

We also, everyday, stop sugar intake at round about 16h00, or we'll sit with an over-stimulated little rascal until 00h00. Rolleyes

My son used to go to bed at 12h00, but it has definitely changed. I am home schooling him and he has to be up by 8h00 and sit at the breakfast table. I would like it to be earlier, but he is only 5 years old and I am quite relaxed.

He stopped taking naps on the day of his 2nd birthday and seems much more chirpy than before, coping extremely well.

All the best to you!

RE: risperidone
I have sleep issues too, but I find when my anxiety is under control, I don't. I am on Rispedal; but my huge live saver is Buspar, which controls my anxiety
