Need help with a diagnosis...
Hi All
Firstly i would like to say a big hello But the main reason for finding this forum is that i need some help with Higher functioning Autism. My Son was diagnosed with Aspergs Syndrome several years ago now, but watching him in his daily life made me notice how we both share a lot of the same traits and qwerks, even my dad tells me he is exactly the same as when i was a child... i'm in my mid 20's now but i have done more and more research recently and everything i have looked at suggests that there is a good chance that i have Aspergs Syndrome as well. Now i don't want to be one of these people who reads something a just decides "oh that's what i have"... but i need advice and wether i should actually look in to a professional diagnosis? i know that this is no means a diagnosis but on Wired Autism test is score between 40 and 43... i have done the test a few times Blush I get extreaml stressed when a routine is disrupted. i cant stand large crowds of people... shops etc... to much noise with all the conversations at once. I am quite happy to seclude myself from people form hours/days at a time with no interaction. i have a hyper focus and a few specific topics that i know an awful lot about... cars, video games, electronics... and an odd one weapons? i notice little details e.g. car number plates in number succession. i can pick up music notes and repeat them quite easily, guitarist. i can be very uninterested in other peoples conversations and i dont really like chit chat... i would be much happier on my own. Any way these are just some of my qwerks as an adult, but really what i am asking is "help" what do i do, should i just leave a professional diagnosis as i am in mid 20's or should i still push for one????? Thanks in advance

RE: Need help with a diagnosis...
@ TETSUO: I personally would go for a professional diagnosis and take full advantage of whatever help you require that is given to you under the Autism Act.

You may get some understanding about yourself and little things that you may have done over the years that may have been slighly different to your peers...for example the hyper focus on things. It would probably be better to get a diagnosis now than be wondering in years to come. Best of luck |
