What do you think? Newbie!
My son is nearly 16 months and I have noticed a few things that I am a little concerned about, they are: hard work, does not consistently respond to his name, doesnt follow direction, seems to hear sometimes but not others, doesnt point or wave, stares at his hands and toys, only makes a "da" sound, refuses to feed himself. However he will play peekaboo, listen to stories and interact well with his cousins. I am going to discuss these concerns with his GP next week but just wanted to ask what other people think. Thanks

RE: What do you think? Newbie!
It's difficult to say. I don't know your family personally, but I'm wondering if you've also had him checked for a hearing impairment. It is always good that you express any concerns that you may have with a developmental pediatrician. There are many disorders or syndromes that mimic each other and often overlap. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the appointment, seek a second opinion.(You are the expert on your child.) A clear diagnosis is not always evident when children are very young, sometimes it takes much longer to figure out what the issues are. I, myself am struggling to get a clear diagnosis for some of my children who are considerably older than your son.

Thanks for your reply Janice. He had his hearing checked at a few days old but I will ask about this, his dad had grommets at around 4 years because he had hearing problems and was lip reading but all fine now. His cousin on my husbands side has Autism and they now think that his sister, my niece also has Autism. He is sat now repeately pressing the same button on his toy so that it makes the sound, if I call him he doesn't respond.

Welcome. It is definitely worth mentioning to yor dr as Janice said. It is hard to say as many things to overlap and mimik each other but you should always express your concerns.
