Hello
Hi All,
I'm Jayne and iI Live in Suffolk UK. I have 3 boys, the eldest (11) has aspergers, well at least that is what we have been told ( Long story) He is now going through multi disciplinary to get an actual diagnosis, so we can access all the help at school and through social care. We were told he has aspergers after we went through getting a statement when he started school at 5, the community pead said that he had aspergers but we have now been told that he has to go through this diagnosis as one doctor alone can't make the diagnosis (Ahhhh wish someone had told me that 7 years ago!!!!) But at the moment we seem to be going backwards, all the progress we have made over the last couple of years seems to have dissapeared and we are having to go back to basics and start again, He has been through a family trauma ( my ex husband and I split and got divorced and I met my new partner who has moved in with us) and I think this is what has caused the shift backwards. So thats why I'm here to try and get some ideas and pointers as to how i can get him moving forward again Sorry for the essay, hope to speak to you all soon Jayne xx |

RE: Hello
Hi Jayne!
I've worked in the social sevices sector for 10+ yrs, and I also have more than one child on the spectrum, including an Aspie. It is quite normal for any child to regress especially when they don't understand the bigger adult issues surrounding them. I also went through a seperation some years ago, so I can relate to the similar circumstances. Aspies thrive on routine. They are also very literal. It will take effort and patience to try to work through his emotions, if he can understand and connect what emotion he feels that make him feel a certain way. Lots of love, support and counselling to let him now that it's ok. It's not his fault. He may miss his father as well. Even for a NT child, these circumstances are difficult at best to cope with. I hope some of this information is helpful. I can empathize with your situation. Best of luck let me know how things go! |
