Autism program on BBC3 Tuesday11th @ 9pm
Just to let you all know there is a program on BBC3 on tusday at 9pm about Autism although i would say Aspergers after looking at the clip.
It looks good but once again what annoys me is these stupid channels always label them as Autistic when yes they are on the Autistic spectrum but they are clearly ASPERGERS then you get family members that don't understand and come to you saying see they will be famous one day or have a special skill. It just gives a falls impression of people that are several Autistim like my son. There needs to be more documentaries about people with Autism! Rant over lol The Sensory Spot. I think your feelings are covered in the BBC article here BBC Article
Totally agree with what you're saying, I'd also like to see more references about Adults coping with autism. I don't tend to look out for stuff about Autism but it always seems to be about naughty children than anything else. The kid's parents aren't always going to be around and that's quite scary. |

i watched the programe and thought it was very good. i do think aspergers is autism no matter how sever however they shoud of shown from one ed of the spectrum to the other end of the spectrum x one of my sons is the aspergers end and the other more sever and and i find alot more support is put in place for sever and nothing for aspegers yet it is just as disabling and impacts the same on his life x

I also watched the program.
Two of the young men followed had their labels announced on the program but one wasn't specified. One was an Aspie. One was classified as a High Functioning Autistic. The one that was not specified may perhaps be classified as Generally Autistic... he certainly seemed more affected by his condition than the other two. It was an interesting program. Of course, no two Autistics are alike (Aspergers being a type of Autism at the so-called 'higher' end of the spectrum). Some professionals believe that HFA and AS are the same thing... however there are apparently subtle differences, especially in Language development. Since Autism is a developmental disorder, I think distinction should be drawn between the two - as this program did

I think that all forms of Autism should be called either HFA or LFA and that programmes that feature both the positive and negative aspects of both kinds should be shown.

One more thing: Aspies can be Autistic savants as well. For example, I am able to replace the soundtracks of games on all 6th and 7th generation games consoles. Of course, Autistic savantism is rare anywhere on the Spectrum.
