Re: violent children with autism
Via my job I come under frequent attack.

You need to identify potential triggers, and work with that. If the level of violence is increasing then you may want to think about medication; i.e - risperidone.

Re: violent children with autism
If he has just come off concerta this could be why is aggression has heightened. this often happens when coming of meds that manage the behaviors and aggression.

I have worked with people on concerta and if they come off it or miss a dose they go crazy!

Re: violent children with autism
It is always hard when it comes to medication i suppose if he has not been off it long then stick with it for a while as it does take time to get out of the system and take him time to adjust without it.

No probs re pen;-)

Re: violent children with autism
hi x my son is six and becomes very violent, he can speak but does not understand very well.
as a result of his behaviour he has been placed in a school for baddly behaved children, the school have no understanding of autism and so you can picture what happens he goes to school to get restrained every day.
I have had him at home for five weeks because the education have said his behaviour is the problem not the autism
Yes well i think we know our kids and the behaviour is a result of the autism x
I am sure you have good times as i do i just try focusing on those times and it makes it easier to cope x

Re: violent children with autism
Hi, yes me son, aged 4.5 yrs gets extremely aggressive when ever he is told 'no' I make allowances for this as he is autistic, but part of me thinks he is actually getting spolied and gets away with a lot because of his condition which makes the situation worse! He hits me a lot and other children his age who approach him, when i reprimand him he throws himself around and self harms or just thrashes around. Any ideas?!

Re: violent children with autism
Myson has just started on rispiradone however over the years we have found if we try to handle ben physically he is more likely to espond with violence which is why school have major problems with him hitting them, the constantly restrain him x louise x
